PowWeb.com Review Visit provider
PowWeb.com Thumbnail

Another piece of the EIG conglomerate mosaic, PowWeb.com was founded in 1999 and was reportedly acquired by the industry giant in 2006.

We say “reportedly” because their own website does not state it was sold to another company – there is no information about it on their company overview page. Instead, they say they “stand on their own two feet”.

Besides, their Press Room has not been updated since 2005, so it appears their website is outdated not only in terms of design but also in terms of information. The footer has 1999-2018 copyright, though.

Offers and Pricing

Shared Hosting Plans
Name Domains Disk Bandwidth Min Price Billing Term
One Plan Unlim Unlim Unlim $12.95 36 Mo

The company provides domain name registration and offers 1 shared hosting plan.

The cheapest offer starts at $3.88/mo – this is a promo price for new customers for the first term of usage. Renewal prices are the following: monthly subscription is $14.95/mo, a 1-year subscription – $14.95/mo, a 2-year subscription – $13.95/mo, a 3-year subscription – $12.95/mo.

Not the cheapest option, when the first frugal period ends.

PowWeb also offers:

  • Email services (Microsoft Exchange),
  • 3d party website builder (powered by Weebly)
  • and several extra services, such as website protection and optimization.

Support and Other Features

To contact them, one can call them (there is a US phone number) or use their live chat. The knowledge base available on the company website is one of its advantages, as it is praised by customers.

As to feedback, it leaves much to be desired: there is the usual it-used-to-be-good-but-went-downhill story with such details as poor customer support, billing issues (charging despite account cancellation, etc.), and technical problems.

And this is the surprising part, at least to us.

Report for 2018

HRANK# in TOPUptime, %Response, msSites, +(-)Shared IPs, +(-)
  • Well, either independently or as a part of a larger company, PowWeb was fairly good (8.6 HRank and the 23d position in 2018) and we would recommend them for a try.
  • We have been monitoring the provider since June 2018 and it was fairly ok in 2018. Only one case of serious downtime (96.97%) was reported for all this time and a couple of very slight ones and that is all.
  • Response time also stayed in the range 600ms – 700ms during the period, with only one case of slower response in June 2018 (the same day when the aforementioned downtime was reported). The rest of the monitoring the performance was next to perfect.
  • They had 25 Shared IPs in 2018; the number that stayed the same till the end of the year. However, they lost more than 2,500 domains in the past months (as of December 2018), which might be saying something, or not.
