PacificHost.com Review

PacificHost.com Thumbnail

You are likely to have heard of PacificHost, because, clearly, they have been around for so long.

Their website states that they were founded in 1999, which makes them one of the oldest players at the hosting market. It also says that their “operations are hosted on the Peer1’s SuperNetwork™ which is powered by Juniper and Cisco technologies” – which sounds promising and we can expect high performance.

However, all those years haven’t turned the company into a large enterprise if compared to other industry giants; however, who said that you need huge numbers to be a success?

Uptime

PacificHost claims having 99.9% uptime; and in accordance with our statistics they pretty much stand by their word.  Our report shows pretty stable performance throughout the entire monitoring period without any serious downtime glitches. So, they are reliable. Translated into the language of profit, this means you are not likely to be worried about your website staying for hours, or even days, without traffic.

Response Time

Again, according to our data, average response time is, well, average. Thus, PacificHost can be characterized as stable and consistent based on this result. Getting back to the technology promise mentioned earlier, looks like that wasn’t an empty one either.

Price

While there are cheaper options at the market and a fair share of providers we review here is located somewhere between $3 and $4, PacificHost’s offer is quite good for a shared hosting. Surely, it is not the cheapest one in a general sense, but it is pretty cheap in a long-term perspective (if you take 3-year plan).

However, it is unlikely that you can strike a bargain if you are not ready to be engaged for so long. When it comes to monthly inexpensive options, basic plan lacks one – the offer starts with a 6-month package for $5.99. This is where our rating gets a bit of a lowering for some lack of choice.

Support

As we can see, PacificHost offers phone (available Mon-Fri, 7AM – 3:30PM PST), e-mail (technical support, billing and sales) and live chat support (24/7). We should admit, Live chat answers very promptly – you don’t need to sit and wait for hours (which might come handy should some tech issues take place.). They also answer to your ticket within an hour. We know this for sure either as we have got projects hosted with them since 2011. For this period we only had downtime issues twice, both didn’t last long. The company used to have minor issues with support some time in the past; however, its services seem to have improved lately and a lot.

Other Features

Taking major features aside, there are some other things to consider. First, PacificHost is packed with unlimited featured and pretty much has everything to power your site; however, mind that basic plan lacks some support of some technologies (which is traditional for most hosting basic plans in general). Next, if you are looking for a new home for your website, you are also likely to benefit from their migration service (not every company offers this for free). Finally, the website is pretty comprehensive, however, its overall design and appearance stay the same for about eight years and might benefit from some refreshment.

So, PacificHost is a company with a fair share of history and experience in this sector. Taking into consideration their uptime and response time statistics we can recommend it as a good choice of a shared hosting if you seek one for your individual project or as a platform for a small or a medium business. In terms of price it is a good bargain if your are ready to pay for 3 years in advance. All in all, the company gains -1 HRANK from us.
