BigBytes.net Review

BigBytes.net Thumbnail

Background

Business Name: BigBytes.Net

Year of foundation: 1999

Location: San Pedro, Philippines

BBB Accreditation: No

Market Size: > 200 websites (#183 HRank list)

Growth Status: (by websites quantity): Decreasing

BigBytes.net is a hosting provider offering affordable solutions for both businesses and individuals. The company is Philippines-based and known for providing hosting services that are not just affordable – they are cheap.

As to the equipment used, BigBytes claims to utilize Intel7 and Harpertown/Clovertown servers in RAID configuration.

However, looking at their website, you cannot help feeling that the design of it is stuck somewhere in the 90s, and perhaps they may benefit from introducing information about themselves some other way, using advanced web technologies and more convenient, user-friendly design.

Offers and Pricing

Shared Hosting Plans
Name Domains Disk Bandwidth Min Price Billing Term
Startup Unlim 0.025 Gb 0.5 Gb $0.68 6 Mo
Economy Unlim 0.2 Gb 4 Gb $1.36 6 Mo
Professional Unlim 0.5 Gb 10 Gb $1.97 6 Mo
Small Business Unlim 1 Gb 20 Gb $4.55 6 Mo
Corporate Unlim 5 Gb 100 Gb $6.06 6 Mo
Enterprise Unlim 10 Gb 200 Gb $12.29 6 Mo

The company offers shared web hosting. Currently, there are 6 shared plans on offer and one can basically choose any (monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual, biannual and triennial) subscription.

Monthly prices for the cheapest payment plan are presented in the table above. Starting from 6 months, monthly prices for plans are the same. Only shorter periods are more expensive.

No monthly options for Startup, Economy, and Professional. Startup also lacks a quarterly payment option.

Reseller and dedicated plans are also available.

Hosting solutions, domain registration services, SSL certificates, and website development at low prices are what make BigBytes special: their packages imply 30-day money back guarantees, and the set of features included is basic, but since the rates are so low, the plans offered can be considered economy-class.

Support

Instant Technical Live Support: No

It looks like all the support is available to the existing customers only. Their contact page contains no contacts at all (and no company info either), it also lacks any emails or phone numbers or else.

“Please use the new client area to contact us for sales inquiry and/or submit support tickets,” this is all we can refer to. Well… they definitely could benefit from adding some information to their pages because at the moment their website looks dated and unreliable.

Report for 2018

  • In 2018 its performance wasn’t great either: 3.2 HRank and #214.
  • Uptime chart reveals many downtime cases as bad as ~84%, ~88%, and ~97%. In some periods it was very unstable.
  • Its response time was way better (300-400ms), however, the chart reveals a lot of instability as well.
  • Thus, perhaps this explains why a certain number of websites left the provider in 2018.
