aSmallOrange.com Review
visit provider
Background
Business Name: A Small Orange, LLC.
Company Owner: the Endurance International Group
Year of foundation: 2003
Location: Burlington, Massachusetts, USA
BBB Accreditation: No
Market Size: > 40K websites (#32 in HRank list)
Growth Status: (by websites quantity): Decreasing
The reputation of aSmallOrange.com hosting is just as controversial as their name is whimsical. The company was founded in Atlanta in 2003.
It appears that aSmallOrange.com used to be a very reliable provider, from the time it was started until it was acquired in 2012 by a conglomerate owning HostGator and Bluehost. As for now, there is an army of ex-customers saying it should be avoided.
Offers and Pricing
Name | Domains | Disk | Bandwidth | Min Price | Billing Term |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Tiny | 1 | 0.5 Gb | 5 Gb | $5.92 | 12 Mo |
Small | Unlim | 5 Gb | 50 Gb | $7.17 | 12 Mo |
Medium | Unlim | 15 Gb | 150 Gb | $10.33 | 12 Mo |
Large | Unlim | 30 Gb | 500 Gb | $19 | 12 Mo |
Prices for shared hosting start from $5.92/mo. This is in fact, the price for the Tiny plan (see the table above) and 36-month subscription. And the same price is for annual monthly and biannual monthly subscriptions.
The same is with all other plans (4 of them in total). Only monthly prices are way more expensive: Small plan is $8, Medium is $15 and Large costs $25.
No monthly payment option for the Tiny plan.
The provider also offers the following services:
- Shared / Reseller / Cloud VPS hositng,
- Website builder (3d party powered by Weebly),
- Dedicated servers.
Their case is really a strange one, as reviews posted on reputable websites suggest uptime, load time, support and pricing are great and can definitely be considered the company’s pros; however, if you try googling about it, you will see a blizzard of negative reviews mentioning a variety of issues – from failure to provide support to clients (“appalling customer experience”) to technical issues.
Touted as a high quality provider, it still makes you think twice before paying, because the overwhelming majority of reviews are negative (and there are plenty of them to make you look for hosting elsewhere).
Support
Instant Technical Live Support: Yes

There is a live chat and it offers tech support.
And no, there is no phone support, which is important to many customers. Just contact form when you go to Contacts.
aSmallOrange Summary Analysis by HRank
Our HRank rating for the company is 4.7 (the 110th position on the list) in 2018 and 7.8 HRank (the 39th position) in 2019.
It had several downtime problems during the monitoring period (several 97% downtime cases and other less significant ones).
Its response time nonetheless was among the good average (around 400ms – 600ms).
Yet, the decreasing number of shared IPs and domains hosted on them proved the point mentioned above: customers were leaving aSmallOrange.com for good. About 12,400 domains (7%) were lost for 2019 year.
Again, we find it quite surprising as the provider’s performance was better than what many of its competitors showed. But having no insider experience, we can’t advocate for them, perhaps, there are other issues that make customers shun.
aSmallOrange is not on our recommendation list.
